Bald heads are common especially in men although women also face hair loss. Baldness is the extensive loss of hair or lack of hair growth in some parts of the body especially the head. It is important to note that there is both male pattern hair loss as well as female pattern hair loss.
Signs and symptoms of baldness include;
Receding hair line, rapid hair loss at an early age, unusual pattern of hair loss, and pain or itching in scalp with hair loss. There are also number of factors that cause it for instance, Hormonal imbalance, genetic causes, nutritional deficiency and sometimes medications.
However, some of the causes and prevention of baldness associate with various myths. Bald heads have a number of myths to them that is to say;
Some people believe that wearing hats causes hair loss. There is no evidence to support this however, tight hats could pull out one’s hair but not necessarily lead to baldness. Some also think frequent use of hair gel and shampoo causes hair loss but this only removes already fallen out hair.
Some believe that hair loss is as a result of genetic inheritance from the mother’s side. Genes are the best cause of baldness especially in males. However, it is said that both genes from the mother and father partially can lead to baldness.
Another myth about baldness or hair loss is that it is partially because of stress. It is sometimes true as well as false. Depending on the kind of stress, it can cause hair loss. For instance, stress due to metal or emotional distresses can easily lead to hair loss.
Cutting your hair helps reduce hair loss. This is another myth. People believe that the more one cuts their hair, the more it grows back. However, this is not believed to be true.
There are a lot of myths in an attempt to combat or resolve hair loss as well as baldness. People have come to believe these myths instead of focusing on how to do away with hair loss and baldness.
