Uganda’s film industry is shooting to greater heights compared to previous years of acting. Ugandans will be showcasing their theatrical talent in an Event, come August 25-29, 2014. This has been set as the official date for the 2nd edition of the Uganda Film Festival (UFF). The theme for this year’s festival is “The Uganda’s Films Industry; Emerging Opportunities”.
The UFF has been organized by the Uganda communications Commission (UCC), which among other duties, has to regulate the film industry. However, in doing so, it also has to stimulate the growth of the film industry in order for actors and actresses to realize their potential and to also create employment opportunities that will widen the revenue base of the nation.
Participants in this festival will be competing for best cinematography, costumes, music sound, screenplay, studio film, short film, student film, feature (full length) film, and an overall film of the year titles, among others. Several film production companies are definitely going to take part in this annual event.
Training and workshops will take place from August 26th to 27th, where various actors and movie producers will receive training on how to shoot movies. Individuals with broad knowledge and experience of the film industry will be invited to give keynote addresses on various industry related topics. The event will take place at Cineplex Cinema both at Garden City and Nakumatt Shopping Malls.
Movie market: During this event, the UCC will organize a space for industry players to set up stalls to either sell their film related products or to buy. Interested parties could include; Video/Film equipment and accessories sellers, Films producers ,distributors, TV Stations, Cinemas, Film Training institutions, Banks and other independent financiers from within and internationally.
A Gala to usher in the grand finale of the UFF will take place at the Kampala Serena Hotel on August 29, 2014. At this point, winners of the festival will be awarded different prizes in the various categories as mentioned earlier
To take part
Interested participants are advised to submit 2 DVD copies of their movies to UCC headquarters at UCC House Plot 42-44 Spring Road, Bugolobi or at Communications House (12th Floor) located along Colville Street and also fill a form either online or manually in order to confirm participation. The deadline for this submission is 17th July 2014. It should however be noted that all this is free of charge so nobody should be manipulated in any way possible.
The 2014 UFF is just part of the evidence that Uganda’s film is reaching international levels, specifically because it was launched by the largely renowned Nigerian Actress Patience Ozokwor.
Uganda is thus following the Hollywood trend of the Oscar awards and this is just the beginning. It is integrating all individuals, both young and old and will therefore be a great opportunity for the youth to realize and nurture their potential since there is a lot to be learned.
